How Much Promotion Do You Need?

I've been thinking alot about doing the whole Myspace thing. Wouldn't that be cool to link up with other authors and readers? I've heard good and bad about the Myspace site -- what do you guys think?

I wish I could help you out here, but I've never logged on to Myspace. I've been hearing a lot about it lately, though. It seems tons of authors are creating accounts there and getting some great contacts. I think that with you being a YA author, it would probably be a great idea.

I think Myspace is a great tool! It takes work, but if you work it right, I think it draws in potential readers. I gained over 100 subscribers to my newsletter, and I believe it is almost entirely due to the bulletins and personal comments inviting new Myspace friends to subscribe to my newsletter.

By searching for romance readers and chick lit readers, I've grown by almost 200 friends in 2 weeks. Like I said, this takes a few hours of work a week...but if the rest of the friends I've invited signed up, I'd have 100+ more. It's all in working the system. So far, knock on wood, I have not found anything negative about Myspace.
